In this corner: Eminem. The Enunciator. The Alliterator. The Detroit punk who can rhyme fourteen syllables a line. And in this corner: the hordes who want the artist formerly known as Marshall Mathers to fall flat on his misogynistic, homophobic, race-baiting, mother-hating, gun-toting, tattoo-flaunting thirty-year-old ass. Sorry, hordes.
SEX IN ‘MILE’ FAR FROM MILD

Denby, David. Perhaps he has merely succeeded in cashing in on the biggest, most controversial pop star since Madonna. Even without regard for his future film prospects, however, there seems to be a general consensus that Eminem shines in 8 Mile , directed by Curtis Hanson L. Love or hate him, like or detest rap, Americans of all colors, ages and musical persuasions have demonstrated their fascination with Eminem at the box office.
'8 Mile' high / Rapper Eminem succeeds in 'Rocky'-like tale about his own rise to fame
THE mission of ''8 Mile'' is essentially to garner sympathy for a white rapper involved in an old-school shootout -- a rap contest. This may be the final frontier for pop, more unbelievable than the prospect of launching a member of 'N Sync into orbit. The film's star, Eminem, doesn't appear to have a great deal of range, but he can play himself. Even though the protagonist is named Jimmy Smith, the thoughtful ''8 Mile'' is a raw version of the rapper's own story. This is basically an 80's go-for-it movie the picture feels like some odd combination of ''Flashdance'' and ''Purple Rain'' , and the director, Curtis Hanson, working with a screenplay by Scott Silver, has done a fine job of giving it a soul, though it's a gloomy, peeling-paint one.
November 10, -- "8-Mile," the searing hiphopudrama starring rap icon Eminem contains a blistering sex scene, more F-words than a Hell's Angels convention, and violence, too. It is also an entertaining, if not very enlightening film. Eminem recently was raised to the exalted status of Tiger Woods after he was mentioned in Chris Rock's memorable quip about how it must be getting close to the end of the world because the best golfer is black and the best rapper is white. Eminem, sometimes labeled a homophobe, sexist, misogynist and racist, comes across better than that in the film.
