The French New Wave was as much a revolution in performance as in direction. Eustache was born in , and came of age as the New Wave began—though he was only six years younger than Truffaut, the difference was a generation gap. Truffaut, Godard, and company had discovered the history of cinema and found that they could use it to tell stories even more personal and intimate than those of their forebears. Eustache, something of a cinematic dandy, understood that the groundwork had been laid—there was no need to redo it. In lieu of cinephilia, he brought a sense of social and family history to his work. But that simple story runs three hours and forty minutes as it carries the trio through a range of intimate disasters that have the feel and tone of epic clashes. The grandeur of the small-scale action emerges from two conflicting elements.
A catharsis for the frustrated moral philosopher in all of us, and a place to finally find out if you were wrong in an argument that's been bothering you. Tell us about any non-violent conflict you have experienced; give us both sides of the story, and find out if you're right, or you're the asshole. This is the sub to lay out your actions and conflicts and get impartial judgment rendered against you. Were you the asshole in that situation or not? Post should be truthful and reflect real situations.
